In the mid 1990s, Craig Sala and Ken Hirasaki, the underage rhythm section of Jonis Butterfly, found themselves on tour with John Entwhistle of The Who, playing to sold out venues beyond their wildest dreams. When the band became lost in a shuffle of managers, contracts, and egos, the two picked up a new singer in Dave Harris and started over in 2000. Their shared love of Neil Diamond, the Descendants and worship of the great rock trios of the past inspired them to pull out all the stops to create a dynamic, catchy onslaught of rock n roll described by Andy White of WBZT 96.7 Greenville, SC as the "Foo Fighters on steroids."

Planeside burned through 2000 copies of their first three song demo and went on to release the 7" single, "Split Ring," a song about a friend being burned by a heavily medicated ex-love, a self-titled EP, and their 1st full-length album "For Motion Discomfort". The album’s 11 tracks launched the band’s national presence through commercial radio airplay and constant touring, including opening spots for Queens of the Stone Age, Helmet, Army of Anyone, Pennywise, The Used, Steve Miller Band, Death From Above 1979, SUM 41, Chevelle, Burning Brides, robbers on high st., Bad Wizard, Brant Bjork & the Bros., Pilot to Gunner, Hawthorne Heights, Unwritten Law, Lost City Angels, Bayside and the Strokes. In addition, ESPN has featured 4 original Planeside songs on its Major League Baseball 2K5 video game. ("Most anticipated sports game of 2005"), as well as 5 songs on their National Hockey League 2K6 release.

In 2006 the band worked with Grammy Award Winning engineer/producer John Seymour (Bouncing Souls, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Santana, Alice in Chains...), to release their highly anticipated sophomore release, "MILK".

In the winter of 2008, the band would give birth to an EP produced by Jonathan Wyman (Ray LaMontagne, Rustic Overtones, Lost on Liftoff), "Under the Circumstances, Its Not Such A Bad Idea". The 6 song CD once again solidifies the growth of Planeside as a major contender in the Rock music world.

Currently the band is on the road relentlessly supporting the album, as well as preparing to go back into the studio, and shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Decades have passed and milestones have been accomplished, but for the trio, theres no stopping the Northeast juggernaut known as Planeside.
