(FAQ) Frequently Asked Questions.

Do you accept Demos and Press Kits?

Yes we do! Thrust Music DOES ACCEPT submissions. But keep reading before you put that stamp on the envelope!

Will you listen to my Demo?

Sorry, we can't guarantee that we will review your demo. However if you fit the criteria we ask for below, and so long as you are professional & polite, there is a good chance we will check it out.

Why wouldn't you listen to my Demo?

First off, we're probably swamped with our current Roster. We believe in developing artists, but we're a small company and we dedicate most of our resources to the bands we are already working with, just as you'd want us to if we represented you! It is also possible that your kit comes in, and gets burried under 400 other CDs and we just misplaced it. We're human after all and accidents happen, especially when working at the pace you have to in the music industry.

If you're not going to listen to my Demo, will you send it back?

Thrust Music is NOT LIABLE for your materials once you submit and we WILL NOT RETURN ANY SUBMISSIONS! Don't send in your only CD.. or valuable masters... You'd be wasting your time and resources and taking a very dangerous chance. If you're an artist that's reading this, you should know enough by now that technology is good enough today to send a CD/CDR/DVD (our preferred formats) and never to send something to any company without saving your masters. When you submit to any label, management company or corporation, you should always consider your promotional materials as good as gone. Learn from other's mistakes... DON'T BE DUMMIES!

OK, so what are you looking for?

Thrust Music DOES accept demo submissions, but there are specific guidelines we ask you to follow. Only Bands/Artists fitting this criteria may be reviewed.

  • Do NOT send Rap or Hip-Hop, unless it has an underlying rock/metal foundation. We aren't suited to market you best anyway.
  • Currently booking your own shows and plan on continued Touring.
  • Have or intend to record your own EP/Album.
  • Currently 18 years old (or have your parent/guardian's permission to work).
  • Have ONE developed sound or style. Sorry, we're not capable of helping those one-of-a-kind Artists who writes one metal song, then one pop song, then one country song. Be focused in one area, because that is what we are looking to market. One Artist / One Message.
  • Oh, and no country Artists... Sorry, not our cup of tea.
  • Genres Accepted: Rock, Metal, Hardcore (pure & post), Screamo, Alt Rock, Acoustic, Electronica/Club

What formats do you accept?

Good Question! Here's a free tip for you, ALWAYS ASK HOW a company prefers to receive promotional materials. Most companies simply don't accept certain media types and formats. In our case, we accept: Audio & Video on CD/CDR/DVD (Highly suggest using some kind of safety case so your discs don't get scratched on their way in, what a horrible first-impression that would be, huh?). We also accept Vinyl from Promotional companies. Yes, vinyl still exists, and there is a definite market still out there for it in some genres. As far as press kits, we suggest sending a digital copy ON A CD/DVD, along with a print out. We accept .doc, .pdf, .jpg, .tif., .eps. Adobe Acrobat (PDF) is by far the easiest multi-page file format to send.

What about sending an Electronic Press Kit (EPK)?

Electronic Press Kits (EPK)'s are quickly becoming a new standard in self-promotion. However there are pros and cons to using them. On the upside, you email us ONE single link to your online press kit, (preferrably from SonicBids.com), and we have everything that would normally be included in a press kit. On the downside, we receive hundreds of emails each day, and may lose yours, or more likely just get sidetracked and forget that you sent it. We DO ACCEPT EPKs, ONLY WHEN YOU CONTACT US TO ASK US FIRST, so we know to look out for it. But we also suggest sending a hard-copy, because nothing really beats a nice press kit coming in the mail - it really makes a statement about how far along you are as an artist.

Can't I just send you my new MP3s?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! MP3s are an AWESOME format, but they KILL email servers. If you send us unsolicited MP3s, and tie up our email server, we will almost certainly not want to work with you because you didn't respect how important our communications to the outside world are. Furthermore, (and regrettably) the days of bands being signed on talent alone are LONG-GONE. These days it takes hard-work, self-promotion, constant touring, self-funding at times when necessary (like.. say, in the beginning of your career...), and only Artists that have those qualities will make it.

Is MySpace acceptable?

Its a decent start. But its just the first step. MySpace works for us like an EPK, so be sure to contact us first before sending a link. Feel free to Add us as your friend from our page: www.myspace.com/thrustmusic

But my design skills stink! What if my press kit looks terrible?

Here's the good news... THAT'S PERFECTLY FINE! We fully understand that not all Artists are also graphic designers. It is true that better looking press kits always make a better first impression, we're happy to say that when we do review an artist, we take all aspects of their artist offerings into consideration. Besides, isn't that what WE'RE HERE FOR after all? To help you look better and know what the heck to do with yourself to get noticed? Just do your best to make it neat and organized and include the basics.

What Should I include in my Press Kit?

We suggest: a SHORT bio, a single artist photo, logo (if you have one and it doesnt suck), list of the top venues & larger events you've played, list of career highlights and releases, an Audio CD/CDR with 3-5 of your BEST recorded tracks. They don't have to be ready-to-sell, but don't send us your basement recordings either. Also a short video of a performance is ALWAYS helpful and will get you taken more seriously, but its not necessary. DO NOT SEND a huge 10 page kit with rambling bios, 20 photos and 7 CDs. You should be able to fit all of the text onto one or two sheets at the most.

How much do you charge to design a Logo/Tshirt/Website/Flyer?

We are open to helping anyone seeking professional graphics and marketing help on a one-off basis. But whether we take your job or not depends on what you are looking for, and our current workload. As far as prices, every job is priced out depending on the scope (details) required to make that project unique and awesome. Send us an email through our Contact form and send as many details describing your job as possible. We will work with you from there to determine if we can help you and we'll price your job out from there. Obviously our own artists receive special help and services, but not everyone is suited to be on our Roster. Go ahead and send us a note - lets get talking.

Will you produce/promote my event?

We will consider all event inquiries seperately. If it meets our goals and requires the services that we are best at, there's a good chance you'll peak our interest.

How Do I book one of your Artists?

Submit an email through the Contact page and leave as many details as possible about the event and the Artist/s you are interested in.

What if I have another question or request thats not listed here?

Submit an email through the Contact page.
